Every year, one day after Thanksgiving (or Black Friday, for all you shoppers out there), we drive to a tree farm and cut down our own tree. There are many memories connected to this tradition, such as running through the trees chasing brothers, the Old Spaghetti Factory afterwords, and just the satisfaction of felling a tree using muscles and a saw. One of these days I'm bringing a hatchet or an ax, as they are much more satisfying to use.
To give you an idea of a Walker Christmas Tree cutting, here are a few pictures from the last few years.
2008: Corey peeks out of the trees. Running and hiding in the groves of trees is a tradition of ours.
The grim reapers from 2009.
I believe this blurry picture of a tree is from 2009, but I can't be certain. Comparing this tree to this year's tree is like comparing Abraham Lincoln to William Taft: do you prefer tall and skinny, or short and fat?
The Christmas tree scavengers from 2010.
Christmas tree explosion!!!! From 2010.
Kevin posing. Compare this tree trunk to the one from this year, which is pictured below. From 2011.
And here is this year's tree! This is the fattest lump of wood and leaves we've ever had grace our family room. It's trunk was so big it wouldn't fit in the shaker thingy, and it is so wide they couldn't net it. We barely squashed it through our front door!
The trunk of this monstrosity. It took us nigh on 10 minutes to saw through this thing. Notice the 20 pound weight tied to the tree to keep it from falling over.
No tree is complete without lights!
The tree with lights...
And with ornaments.
That was a quick glimpse at trees past and present (pun intended). I hope you enjoyed it!

ReplyDeleteI bet it makes the whole house smell like Christmas, though.
